Digital and AI maturity assessment
Processes
How critical processes are defined and measuredWhat digital maturity means
Digital maturity is how consistently a company turns its processes, data and technology into measurable results. It is not the number of tools you own: a company with a CRM, a BI suite and three AI copilots can still sit at level 1 if nobody owns the process and the numbers do not match.
We score five areas because they fail in sequence. Undocumented processes produce unreliable data; unreliable data breaks automation; broken automation makes AI look like a toy; and without governance the whole thing stalls at pilot stage.
The five maturity levels
| Level | Score | What it looks like | Next step |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1. Initial | 0–20 | The business runs on manual work and knowledge held in people's heads. Any AI initiative will fail until processes and data have a minimum foundation. | Document and measure the three most time-consuming processes before automating anything. |
| 2. Getting started | 21–40 | There are tools and good intentions, but they live in silos. Returns get lost because each area solves its own part with no shared architecture. | Connect your CRM and operational system around a single source of truth and assign an owner to each data domain. |
| 3. Connected | 41–60 | Systems talk to each other and leadership trusts the main numbers. This is where automation starts returning real hours. | Prioritise end-to-end automations with a business case and monitoring from day one. |
| 4. Automated | 61–80 | Repetitive work is largely automated and measured. AI delivers value in specific cases and the next leap is delegating execution, not just answers. | Introduce agents with scoped permissions over already-measured processes and audit every action. |
| 5. Agentic | 81–100 | Processes, data and governance support agents that execute under supervision. The focus shifts to scaling use cases and controlling risk without slowing down. | Scale the model to new areas while keeping inventory, traceability and per-agent impact metrics. |
How the score is calculated
Fifteen questions, three per area, each scored from 0 to 3. The result is the percentage of the maximum score, mapped to the five levels above. The calculation is deterministic: the same answers always produce the same result and no AI model is involved.
What to do with your result
- Below 40: fix processes and data before buying anything else.
- 40–60: connect systems end-to-end and build the business case for each automation.
- Above 60: move from assistants to agents with scoped permissions and audit trails.
